BEST PRACTICES FOR ESL TEACHERS--
Dos and Don'ts for the Classroom
This 2-hour workshop is offered to start-up ESL programs and those already in progress. It contains 2 parts:
a) an interactive session offering basic tips and how-tos
b) a group work session/mock teaching experience with peer critique and feedback
In the first part, topics covered include:
a) proper ways to speak (enunciating, talking speed, use of idiomatic speech)
b) methods of getting your message across
c) the teacher as actor
d) proper appearance and demeanor
e) innovative ways to make your classroom experiences unforgettable
In the second part, participants are paired off in small groups and given an ESL "lesson" to prepare for the "class" consisting of other members of the workshop.
Each "student" has a checklist to rate how effectively the "teacher" presents the material. There is opportunity for discussion and review after each presentation.
The BEST PRACTICES Workshop can be given at the Best English ESL teaching studio (if 8 participants or fewer) or at your location.
